Dear Parents and Carers
Trivia Night Postponed
Unfortunately, after some consideration, the Community Council has made the decision to postpone the proposed Trivia Night. A lack of volunteers to join the committee made the task to organise the evening too difficult.
The Council is investigating alternative models for the evening and is hopeful that the event can be rescheduled to Semester Two.
Mother’s Day
I would like to offer a very big thank you to Kristy Marks and her team for their organisation of the Mother’s Day Gift Shop last Friday. This long-standing initiative is much appreciated by our school community. This group of volunteers enables parents to receive a gift on Mothers and Fathers’ Day that they may not receive. I think you will agree, it speaks volumes about the team’s generosity.
Thank you also to those parents who assisted staff at the Mother’s Day Breakfast.
Staffing
I would like to wish Louisa Mitchell every best wish as she begins her Maternity Leave from tomorrow. Sam Hornby will act as Religious Education Coordinator for the remainder of this year. Sophie Murdock will take responsibility for this role from the beginning of 2024 for the First Semester.
Welcome to Rachel McGeechan who commenced working in our Front Office on Monday.
50th Anniversary Wall
I am pleased to report progress has commenced on the construction on our Anniversary Wall. Late last week a slab was laid in preparation for the bricklayer to commence work during the next few weeks.
Thank you to Matthew Inder for his generosity in excavating the site and laying the slab. One of our former dads has volunteered to do the brickwork!
May God bless you and your families this week.

Dear Parents and Carers,
Parent Expert Pool
Our Week 2 Exhibition was a roaring success, and our students loved having the opportunity to speak about their learning to an authentic audience. Thank you so much for your participation. Interestingly, a global consulting group recently used advanced analytics to identify factors that play a critical role in student achievement across the globe. They found that students, like those at St Matthew’s, who receive a blend of teacher-directed and inquiry-based instruction have the best outcomes.
We love to have our parents come in to classes to speak about issues that are relevant to our studies in inquiry. This normally involves about ten minutes of speaking and a few minutes of questions from the young audience. If you have a specific area of interest or expertise that you think would appeal to an audience of pre-teens, please email me (petra.cole@cg.catholic.edu.au). I’ll place you in our Pool of Inquiry Helpers and pass on the information to our teachers.
