A Fond Farewell to Graham Pollard
I recently asked the staff of St Matthew’s to tell me about what they saw as Graham’s best attributes. Here are some examples:
Graham is approachable and nurturing. He leads with humility.
Graham is a true servant leader. He is an advocate for all in his care, both students and staff alike.
Graham is a sincere and kind person. He is always keen to start a conversation and make you feel at ease.
Graham is a remarkable leader whose gentle and caring nature will be sadly missed. Graham is not just a principal; he is a compassionate individual who makes meaningful connections with students and staff.
What I have appreciated most about Graham’s leadership is his sincerity, authenticity and composure under pressure, and, most importantly, the deep and abiding respect he shows others in all situations. He always leads by travelling beside us.
So, you can guess that for us, this is a bittersweet moment as we bid farewell to a leader, a mentor, and a friend - someone who has dedicated decades to Catholic Education with an unwavering commitment to his faith, and to the enrichment, growth and development of students and staff.
Graham is not just a leader in the traditional sense, but a guiding force who has left an indelible mark on every school which he’s led. Here, at St Matthew’s, especially, he has created an environment where both students and teachers can take risks and flourish.
We all hope that Graham’s retirement will be a time of peace, joy, and the pursuit of passions long put on hold.
On behalf of the entire school community, we extend our deepest gratitude for Graham’s years of service, dedication, and leadership. We feel blessed to have had him as our Principal. His departure leaves a void that will be challenging to fill, but his influence will continue to resonate within these walls.
Graham, you've led us down the right path, and your legacy will continue to guide us even as you embark on a new journey. Congratulations on a remarkable career. We hope the road ahead will be as fulfilling as the one you leave behind.
Petra Cole, on behalf of all of the staff of St Matthew’s
