Dear Parents and Carers
Yesterday’s 1970’s Celebration Day was an outstanding success! The children thoroughly enjoyed the many activities which were on offer. As you may have heard the day commenced with a liturgy thanking God for the many blessings which our school has enjoyed during its short history. The day was particularly poignant because it fell on our Patron Saint’s Feast Day
The remainder of the day was spent playing 1970’s games and participating in a whole school craft activity. The children were delighted to receive a cupcake at Morning Tea, specially baked by a team of parents. At the end of the day the children also received a special St Matthew’s pen which we hope they keep and cherish and bring to our 100th celebrations!
Thankyou for making such an effort to celebrate our major events this year. The children looked fabulous in the 1970’s clothing and it spoke volumes for the wonderful support we always receive from our community.
Queen Elizabeth Memorial Service
Early this week our school was invited to send six representatives to the Queen Elizabeth Memorial Service which was conducted at Parliament House today.
Unfortunately, our school’s participation was limited to three families. After a ballot, the lucky winners were the Susic, Morrison and Morris families. We hope they had a fabulous experience.
Transportable Building
We have received confirmation from the builders that the Transportable Building will be ready for occupation at the start of next term. Year 4B will relocate to this building from Marian Hall. Thank you to Fr Simon and the many parishioners who generously gave up this building for this extended period. The new building will now remain onsite until all building works, including the remaining stages, are complete.
Miss Burch
On behalf of our school community, I would like to wish Miss Lara Burch and her fiancé, Josiah every blessing on her wedding day next Saturday 30th September.
We have some fun, and a special blessing planned for Miss Burch tomorrow morning at our Morning Assembly.
Thank you and Farewell
I would like to wish you a wonderful final term and end of year as I take Leave. I particularly want to thank and farewell any families who will be leaving our school at year’s end, especially those with Year Six children.
I will leave you in the very capable hands of Petra Cole, who will act in my absence, and I very much look forward to reconnecting with you next year.
May God bless you and your families

First Holy Communion
Congratulations to all the students in our South Belconnen Parish who received their First Holy Communion over the last two weekends. The celebrations were wonderful and each of our students celebrated in communion with the Parish.
We enjoyed a day full of 70’s fashion, a lovely liturgy and 70’s games. It was wonderful to come together as a whole school and celebrate out Patron Saint. He leads us in truth and love to follow in Jesus’ footsteps, spreading light and love to all those we meet.
We were thoroughly impressed with the projects on display at our recent Science Fair. All students did a wonderful job in expressing their understanding about their investigation, where many varied and wonderful experiments were performed or shown. We congratulate them on their knowledge and ingenuity as they explored their topics. Thank you to all the family members at home who helped out with these projects. All the students involved should be very proud of their efforts!
2022 Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships
Last week Tessa Canning and Jacob Garner represented St Matthews Primary School in the 2022 Australian Interschools Snowsports Championships.
To even get an invite to the National Championships students need to perform at a high level in the Regional and then the State Championships which were held at Perisher this year.
Jacob finished 14th in Alpine and 9th in Ski Cross, a fantastic result considering this is the best of Australia.
Tessa Canning won Gold in the Giant Slalom, with the fastest overall time (faster than the boys!) .
She also won Silver in the BoarderCross competition by 0.007 of a second.
But , just a little tip for any of you who head off to the snow... don't challenge these 2 to a race.
