Dear Families,
Our parent community continues to be generous of spirit. Generosity of spirit is not something we merely do. It is the embodiment of who we are. Sustaining those who possess a generous spirit is an awareness of God’s generosity to us. We, in turn, as his baptised people, share that generosity, and inspire others along the way! In Term 4, especially, we were inspired and able to re-establish connections and relationships with families through the Grandfriends’ Day Picnic, Exhibition, the Advent Liturgy, and the Kinder Nativity. The Pandemic, despite all the interruptions to our normal life, brought new learnings, and opened our eyes to the possibility of doing things differently. There will be many opportunities for growth and change in 2023. School resumes for all children on Tuesday 31 January.
End-of-Term Events
We concluded our school year this week with a series of events. Our Year Six Farewell Mass and Dinner was held on Tuesday. Thank you to the committee of Year Five parents who worked tirelessly over the past couple of weeks to coordinate a spectacular event. Thank you, also, to our Year Six teachers, Dillon Payne and Lauren Ogden, and to Rachel Powell, who worked hard to provide a wonderful evening for the children. On Thursday afternoon, the Year Six children will complete their time at St Matthew’s with a Walk of Fame. They will parade through the school and be farewelled by staff and students after they return from their Big Day Out.
On Tuesday, our Year Five and Six children also participated in the Light of Leadership ceremony. This is a short ceremony where our older children ritually hand over a light to symbolise the handing on of leadership at St Matthew’s. It was a beautiful and meaningful event.
Representatives from St Vincent de Paul received our hampers this week, and were overwhelmed by the generosity of the St Matthew’s Primary School community. Please know that your gifts will be gratefully received by a number of families who are in need at Christmas.
Semester Two Reports
Yesterday, you received your child’s Semester Two Report and class grouping for 2023. This information was conveyed via Compass.
Departing Staff Members
Finally, I would like to wish our departing staff members, Marnie Mills, Mary Rezek and Lauren Ogden, and all our departing families, every success as they begin new adventures next year.
Christmas Vigil Mass
Please feel welcome to join our community for Christmas Vigil Mass celebrating the Nativity of the Lord at 6pm on Christmas Eve on the Junior Playground of St Vincent’s school.
On behalf of all of the staff at St Matthew’s, I wish you and your family a peace-filled Christmas and a restful summer holiday. Thank you for your support of me this term. We look forward to welcoming back Graham Pollard in January.
