Dear Parents and Carers
It seems hard to believe but even though we are barely mid-way through March our plans for next year’s enrolment period are already taking shape. I feel obligated to reinforce to you that, despite headlines which might indicate to the contrary, Catholic schools are inclusive communities open to families who are willing to support our core principles. St Matthew’s proudly boasts children from many faith traditions, Christian and non-Christian. Our school welcomes and supports children who reside in families of every composition.
I would be grateful if you could pass on these messages which reflect the diversity of our schools, especially to those who may be considering enrolling their child in the future.
Staffing
Mrs Louisa Mitchell will commence Maternity Leave from the beginning of next term for the remainder of this year. Congratulations to Mrs Sharee Thomas who, following an interview process, has been selected as the Acting Religious Education Coordinator and Year One B teacher. Mrs Thomas is an experienced teacher and Religious Education Coordinator having fulfilled this role at St John Vianney’s Waramanga for many years.
I would also like to welcome Ms Ana Zaja to our Learning Support Team. Ana will work in a part time capacity in the Year Three/Four area of the school under the leadership of Ms Cathy Talbot.
Working Bee
A reminder that our Autumn Working Bee will be held on Sunday March 28th commencing at 9.30 am. If you are able to assist on this morning, for even part of the time, please indicate your availability by emailing office.stmatts@cg.catholic.edu.au your response will help us with our planning and cathering. children are most welcome to attend.
Disco
My apologies for giving you the wrong date for our “In House Disco”. The correct date is Tuesday March 30th (last Tuesday of this term). The disco will be held in staggered sessions during the school day. Please dress your child in sun smart disco clothes with appropriate footwear.
School Cross Country and Colour Run
Our school will host its annual Cross Country on Friday April 23rd at Stromlo Park, this is the first Friday following the children’s return to school from the Easter Holidays. In past years we have combined this event with our School Walkathon which took place at the end of the day. This year, with the help of our Community Council we have decided to hold a Colour Run, after lunch around the school’s Belway (Senior) Oval.
This activity will double as a fund raiser for the Community Council. We will provide you with further details, including how you can sponsor your child during the next few days.
Pupil Free Day
Just a reminder that we have been informed by the Catholic Education Office that the first scheduled day back in Term Two, 19th April has been declared a Pupil Free Day.
Our After Hours Care Providers have indicated that they will be offering care on that day. If you would like to access this service on this day please make contact with OSHCLUB on 0437730454 or online www.oshclub.com.au
May God bless you and your families
