Dear Parents and Carers
I trust you found the opportunity to speak to your child’s classroom teacher, during this week’s interviews, to be valuable. The disruptions caused by COVID have allowed our staff to approach the Reporting schedule in a slightly different way this year. The Parent Teacher interviews have effectively replaced the comments which normally accompany our End of Year Reports. From a staff perspective the general feeling was that this was a better option which enabled a conversation rather than a simple comment. I would appreciate your thoughts regarding this change.
If you are yet to sign up to the Compass platform, please do so as soon as possible. Your child’s report and 2022 class grouping will be relayed via this platform. Please follow this link to sign up: https://stmattsps-act.compass.education

Staffing
Congratulations to Ms Tegan Bew who has been appointed to Merici College from next year. Tegan has been a well-known member of our staff having worked in the senior grades of St Matthew’s for many years. This is an exciting opportunity for Tegan as she joins the Merici community in the role of Academic Coordinator, a position where she can use her skills, especially in the Learning Support area. Good luck and thank you Tegan.
Year Six School Present
It is a tradition at St Matthew's that the departing Year Six class presents a gift to the school to commemorate their time and offer their thanks. This year Wendy Ricks an Indigenous artist has agreed to paint a mural on the eastern most facing wall of the school. The mural will be the first step in the establishment of a “Bush Tucker” garden in a nearby area. We are hopeful that the children can contribute ideas towards the mural in preparation for the painting to take place in late January. Here is an example of Wendy’s work.
If COVID restrictions allow, the garden will be the focus of our Autumn working bee next year.
