Dear Parents and Carers
My awkwardness was probably more about having a clear symbol on my face that said I was Catholic. It is a medieval practice that requires a fair degree of explanation to those who are not from a Christian background.
I would probably feel less awkward nowadays, but in truth I can’t recall of another time in the year when you so clearly put your religious beliefs on show.
The symbolism is powerful and the action, which says you are going to try and become a better person, never loses its relevance or purpose.
Morning Drive Through
From next week, Morning Drive Through will revert to situation normal, that is, there will be no teacher supervision at this time of the morning. Our staff was aware that at the beginning of the school year some children may have needed support and direction given the changes to our playground areas and the ongoing uncertainty surrounding COVID. Our observation is that all children have now settled into school life and are familiar with the morning routines.
I would ask however for parents to be mindful that this is a DROP OFF area and to park and personally bring your child to the school gate if they still require support to leave the car.
Congratulations
Special congratulations to Ty Brazier and Owen Netting who have been selected to train in the GWS Academy squad. This is a fabulous achievement for both boys, well done.
Mr Hornby
Congratulations to Sam Hornby and his wife, Amelia on the safe arrival of Lilian on Monday morning at 8.30am
Both mum and baby are ”happy and healthy”.
Absentee Children
A reminder to all parents and carers if your child is absent, please log onto the Compass Portal and complete an Absence Form.
Coffee Cart
This Friday from 8.30am a coffee cart will be parked in the top carpark for the use of our parents and friends. Give yourself a Friday treat. You might recognise the barrister who is the former Canberra Capitals player, Jess Bibby.
Class Award Winners
Congratulations to our Class Award winners who received their certificate on Tuesday morning. We are hopeful that as restrictions ease, we will be able to invite parents onto our school grounds and present the Awards at Morning Assembly. Hopefully in the not-too-distant future.
Donation
I would like to acknowledge the generous donation of $400 from the Youth Director of the Rotary Club of Belconnen. Each year this donation is directed towards supplementing our Library Budget and is always gratefully received.
