Dear Parents and Carers
50th Anniversary Celebration
Sunday’s mass was a wonderful celebration of our school’s short history. Many former staff including twelve Josephite nuns gathered with us to give thanks and recount the early days of St Matthew’s school. One of the sisters drove from Gilgandra, another from Newcastle to be present at this celebration.
I would particularly like to thank the many parents and community members who showed their support by their attendance. A special thankyou to those parents who joined us to form a joint Staff and Parent Choir. The music was outstanding, and we are indebted to all choir members for their generosity.
Finally, I would also like to make special mention of our wonderful staff many of whom also spent Saturday at school preparing for the big day.
Our focus will now shift to a 70’s day for our children where everyone can come dressed in 70’s clothing and play 70’s games. More information regarding this day will be forwarded next term.
Tomorrow I am meeting with two members of our 50th Dinner Celebration Committee to progress our plans for this event. Please reserve Friday 2nd September in your diary for this important event. You can expect further information next term.
Building Renovations
Our much-anticipated building renovations will commence following the Term One holidays. This week we have been preparing for the start of the demolition process by relocating classrooms to their temporary location.
From next term:
- Year Six classes will be in the Hall
- Year Five classes will be in the library
- Year Four M will be in the Creative Arts Room and Year Four B will be in Marian Hall, which is the building adjoining the Church.
- After and Before School Care will remain in the Hall but will also use the corridor space near the Toilets.
Everyone who has had experience with building projects will understand that the finishing date is dependent upon many factors. Suffice to say that at the completion of the Project the school will have wonderful facilities for teaching and learning.
