High-Impact Teaching Practice
Yesterday, the staff participated in High Impact Teaching Practice Coaching with Toni Hatten-Roberts from COGlearn.
Toni is a Director and Lead Consultant for COGlearn. She holds a Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Social Science –Psychology (Honours).
COGlearn was founded in 2016 with the purpose of utilising proven scientific methods from cognitive psychology and evidence-informed programs and practices to improve student learning.
COGlearn specialises in providing on-site and remote support and coaching for school leaders and educators. Their instructional model is called Cognitive Based Instruction and is based on the cognitive science of learning. They also deliver training and support in instructional leadership techniques.
The staff at St Matthew's have been working with COGlearn for the past three years. They are dedicated to developing their 'teacher toolkit' and pursuing excellence.
As we navigate through the school term, we've noticed increased illnesses circulating. With various bugs making their rounds, it's crucial now more than ever to prioritise the health and well-being of our school community.
One of the most effective ways to curb the spread of germs within our school is by ensuring that sick children stay home until they are fully recovered. This not only safeguards the sick child's health but also helps prevent the spread of illness to their
classmates and teachers.
We understand the challenges this may pose for working parents and the inconvenience it may cause families. However, by keeping sick children at home, we collectively contribute to a healthier environment for everyone.
Here are a few key points to keep in mind:
1. Recognise Symptoms: Be vigilant in recognising symptoms of illness in your child, such as fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, nausea, or vomiting. If your child exhibits any of these symptoms, keeping them home from school is best.
2. Rest and Recovery: Rest is crucial for recovery from illness.
By allowing your child to stay home and rest, you facilitate a speedier recovery process, enabling them to return to school when they are no longer symptomatic.
3. Prevent Spread: Illnesses can easily spread in close-contact environments like schools. By keeping sick children at home, you help prevent the spread of germs to other students and staff members, reducing the risk of further illness.
4. Communicate with the School: If your child is unwell and unable to attend school, please communicate this information through Compass or the school office.
5. Practice Good Hygiene: Reinforce the importance of good hygiene practices with your children, such as regular handwashing with soap and water, covering coughs and sneezes, and avoiding close contact with others when sick.
As partners in your child's education and well-being, we appreciate your cooperation and understanding in this matter. Together, we can work towards maintaining a healthy and safe learning environment for all.
2024 Welcome Barbeque - TAKE TWO
After a wet and stormy day last Friday, the decision was made to postpone the Community Council 2024 Welcome Barbeque and Picnic until tomorrow afternoon.
Tomorrow, it will go ahead from 4.30 pm, rain, hail or shine!
Many hands make light work. Helpers are still required. If you can assist with setting up, cooking, serving, or packing up the Welcome Barbeque, please contact our Community Council Chairperson, Kylie McNamara,
at kylieamcnamara@gmail.com.
Your support is appreciated.
External Notice Board
As you may notice, we now have an external notice board for messages and the like at pick-up and drop-off. This addition was a suggestion of the School Community Council (SCC).
If you have any ideas that would make St Matthew's an even greater school, please feel free to contact me or a SCC member.
Newsletter Submissions
I encourage you to share your children's achievements to publicise with our community. Please email the details and photographs (if you have them) for inclusion in our newsletter.
It's wonderful to share the amazing accomplishments of our students, big and small. These can be emailed to office.stmatts@cg.catholic.edu.au.
In truth and love,
